Murder & Manslaughter Lawyer
Murder and manslaughter are extremely serious charges that can result in life imprisonment or even the death penalty if you are convicted. If you have been arrested, charged or you know you will be charged with murder, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, or capital murder you need to speak with George Tyson as soon as possible.
Murder charges result in more serious consequences and require a much more complex defense. When faced with these charges you need more than a defense lawyer defending various, lesser violent crimes. Mr. Tyson and his associates have successfully handled capital murder cases, including the much publicized 1997 Angleton Case where Robert Angleton was charged and later acquitted of Capital Murder.
Types of Murder & Manslaughter Charges
There are several different types of homicide that you can be charged with in Texas. According to Texas Penal Law, you are guilty of committing criminal homicide if you “intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence” cause the death of another person. The types of criminal homicide include:
- Manslaughter is when someone causes the death of another person due to reckless actions or inactions. This is a felony of the second degree, which could result in up to 20 years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines.
- Murder charges are issued if it is believed that you intentionally or knowingly caused the death of another person, or if you intended to and do cause serious bodily injury resulting in death. This is classified as either a second degree or first degree felony, depending upon the circumstances of your case, which could result in up to life imprisonment.
- Capital Murder is more serious and can be charged if varying circumstances are met. For example, if you commit murder for money or the promise of money, you can be charged with capital murder. This type of charge is a capital felony which could result in life imprisonment or punishment by death.
